FAQ

Questions we always get asked.

Federal incorporation under the Canada Business Corporations Act gives you the right to carry on business in all provinces but requires extra-provincial registration in each operating province. Provincial incorporation is simpler and lower cost for businesses operating in one province. We scope both options and advise based on your situation.
NUANS (Newly Upgraded Automated Name Search) is a mandatory name search for federal incorporations and most provincial incorporations. It checks that your proposed corporate name is not already in use or confusingly similar to an existing name. We run the NUANS search as part of every incorporation engagement.
Yes. Quebec incorporations under the Business Corporations Act (LSAQ) require bilingual filings and specific Quebec name requirements. We handle Quebec corporate filings. Quebec-specific legal advice requires a Quebec notary or lawyer.
The CRA Business Number (BN) is the unique 9-digit identifier for your business with CRA. Program accounts (payroll RP, GST/HST RT, import/export RM) are extensions of the BN. We register the BN and all required program accounts at incorporation.
Federal incorporation via Corporations Canada: 1–5 business days online. Most provincial incorporations process within 1–3 business days. Rush processing is available in most jurisdictions at additional cost.
No. Ledger Brigade provides corporate administration and document preparation services, we are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice. For shareholder agreements, complex ownership structures, or litigation, we recommend engaging a licensed lawyer.
